Why We Rent Out Our “Dream” Coronado Home
In 2014, our dream home was completed in Coronado. Having lived “on the island” for 25 years, we have always dreamed about designing our “forever home” and were very fortunate to make it happen just a few years ago. We worked with professionals to design, build and decorate our home. So, why in the world would we rent to people we have never met?
Here are the top reasons why we rent out our Coronado:
- Income – renting our home allows us to more easily pay our bills, especially our property tax and mortgage.
- “Forced” Travel – moving out of our home for 26+ days is a good thing. We aren’t the best at making time for vacations. In the last few years, we have been to Europe, Africa, South America, Canada and many states in America.
- Family Time – related to #2 above, we get to spend dedicated time with our family. In today’s busy world, it’s harder to make this happen.
- Coronado Escape – we love living “on the island”, but there is a big world to explore. Renting out our home out allows to travel the world and get out of our comfort zone.
- Letting Go of Material Things – yes, we take a security deposit to cover damages by renters. However, not only have we rarely had to charge for damages, but it has taught us (and especially our children) that our stuff is just stuff. Everything can be replaced and if it can’t, it’s just stuff.
We have had incredibly great vacation renters and have had the privilege to call many of them our friends. Finding a good family to rent our home makes it easier to be away from it. It truly has been a blessing to our family and hopefully a blessing back to the family that has rented our home.
